The Magical World of Mushrooms

mushrooms

It was my friend, Claire, who alerted me to the mushrooms and toadstools growing in a local wood.

And so I turned intrepid fungi photographer for an afternoon; diligently cataloguing the extraordinary variety of bulbous shapes scattered about the ground and clinging to tree trunks.

I’ve never before seen so many sorts in one place at one time. And so many of them!  It goes without saying that my absolute favourites were the red ones with white spots. Straight out of a storybook, they were.

This must surely be the capital of the local fairy kingdom….

P.S.  Today I'm taking part in Mosaic Monday, hosted by Mary at Little Red House.  Why not pop on over and take a look at some of the other lovely mosaics you'll find links to there?

So lovely. I want to eat them. Except for the red ones. I just want to look at the red ones! Are any of these edible to your knowledge?

Haven't a clue, Lisa. But someone told me that the estate to which the woodland belongs produces a leaflet at this time of year - a sort of fungi trail. I might try to pick up a copy - that would probably tell me. :)

Helen, I love this collage! Autumn is my absolutely favourite time of year, a time when I feel most alive. The colour and atmosphere of your photo collage encapsulates the magic of Autumn for me :)
