I'll Be Back

My body landed back in England a few hours ago. My heart and mind are still in India.

I crammed a lot into my short time there. Over the last ten days or so, I've:

  • worn a sari

  • walked in the foothills of the Himalayas

  • taken a yoga class with an amazing Indian yogi

  • had a run-in with a group of angry monkeys

  • learned my first words of Hindi

  • attended a Son et Lumiere performance at the Red Fort in Delhi

  • had an Indian head massage

  • watched a craftsman maker of traditional knotted rugs demonstrate his art

  • experienced an 'Indian-style' toilet

  • visited the Taj Mahal and the Qutb Minar

  • had my hands painted with intricate henna designs

  • shopped in the bazaars of Old Delhi

  • met family members I'd only heard of - and others I didn't know existed

  • sat in a jacuzzi under a deep blue sky on the edge of a cliff, surrounded by snow-capped peaks that stretched into China

Despite all that, I know I haven't even begun to scratch the surface of this extraordinary country.

Which gives me every reason to return. :)

India! Can't wait to hear/see more, Helen... I've wanted to see India for some time, myself--the culture, history, art & food fascinates. I'm trying to convince my husband for a trip there, that the "Indian style toilets" won't be so bad... LOL! LOVE seeing this mosaic--a little glimpse of your time there. The wine red sari you're modelling is gorgeous--did you choose that one?! Happy days basking in the glow of memories... ((HUGS))

Tracy, that particular sari was a Diwali gift from my aunt and uncle. Isn't it a beautiful colour?

helen, what a wonderful trip! you are so lucky to have relatives there, to really be a part of that mysterious, magical, confusing place! have loved all your posts, and will love to hear more. and it looks like your camera and you have bonded, as well :-)
welcome back. wishing you a smooth reentry ... although, it is so hard to go from a place like india to a place like england (or the states) ... such juxtaposition! but the human spirit is flexible. rest well. xh

Helen,

You are radiant in that sari - so happy and relaxed, and looking very wise. I look forward to more stories of your adventures. I am particularly interested in the tale of the angry monkeys . . .

You look gorgeous in that maroon sari!

Yep, I remember being harrassed by monkeys at a temple too. It came after my bag of tangerines, and was actually a bit scary. I couldn't get rid of it, until I threw the whole bag of tangerines away - which was exactly what that sneaky monkey wanted. Grrr...

So glad you get to shop in Old Delhi - what a cacophany of sights, sounds, smells, eh?

Lovely pillow case raffle too, but I won't comment there - leave more chances for others.
