The Purple Heather
Sunday, August 29, 2010 at 8:30 PM
I couldn't let August slip away without showing you the heather in its prettiest frock.
The gloom and rain of this month have made for a dearth of photos; but I managed to salvage these.....leaden skies and all.
If you're wondering what entitles Joss to be in the frame, he's chewing on a stem of heather - an habitual pastime when up on the moors.
The blossom's just beginning to turn now - the purple buds fading to brown. Let's hope that as the colour leaves, the sunshine returns.....
P.S. Today I'm taking part in Mosaic Monday, hosted by Mary at Little Red House. Why not pop on over and take a look at some of the other lovely mosaics you'll find links to there?

Gorgeous!
Love these little glimpses of your world Helen. I'm wishing we could trade weather for a few days - we've had close to triple digit, sunshiny days all summer; a little rain would be wonderful about now!
blessings,
Kelley
Your lovely mosaic reminds me so much of our trips to Scotland where we saw lots of heather, and the scenery looked similar. All our trips were at this time of year, so this is especially nice to see.
Those whispers of purple and lilac tug at my heartstrings...*sigh*... Happy Days, Helen ((HUGS))
I remember our visit to Ireland and Scotland a few years ago and seeing the heather on the hills. It was spectacular. I even brought a piece home thinking I could grow it her. Our soil is too alkaline and the winters too cold so it died. Thanks for sharing today
What gorgeous photos, I love seeing your part of the world. I am traveling in England right now with my family and it is just stunningly beautiful. We've been enjoying the Cornish countryside. When I am home in NYC coming to your blog reminds me of how much I love it here!
Brilliant mosaic ... all the photos are wonderful. Love the rainbow arching over the field of heather ... and the shots showing heather beside the lane and walkway. The close-up is just beautiful! Such a great part of the world.
