Goodbye, Picnik!

Thank you!

The ants have invaded and the Picnik is over – my favourite online photo editing site shuts up shop today.

I couldn’t let it disappear, though, without saying a big thank you.  It was Picnik that first got me editing pictures with its fun and straightforward format.  Many, many of the images on this site were edited in Picnik….and most of the collages I’ve put together over the years were created there.  This little corner of the blogosphere would not look the way it does today if it were not for Picnik’s help.  So…thank you, thank you, thank you!

The good news is that some of the Picnikers have set up shop over at PicMonkey.  And there’s an ever increasing variety of other online editing options for those who don’t want to find their way around Photoshop.  I’ve been experimenting with both Snapseed and Pixlr Express lately.

Most of my editing these days, however, is done with apps.  Yet there are some things for which I still automatically turn to Picnik.  And I’ll miss it.

I put together one last collage (above) with pictures taken on my birthday walk in the woods on Monday.  And now that’s it.

Goodbye, familiar friend.  It was a great Picnik!

You may already know this, but picasa actually took over for picnik, which means almost all the editing tools of picnik are now available on picasa (which is quite, quite awesome). I did a really basic mini-tutorial on the new integration right after it happened (mostly for my mom, who is a technophobe).
