April in August

It's April weather though the calendar says August. Sunshine then showers. Sunshine then stair rods, falling from the sky.
Perfect rainbow weather!

Beautiful picture!
Now, do educate an American here - what are "stair rods"?
Okay so, strictly speaking, stair rods are those metal rods you sometimes see (though less so these days) at the back of each staircase tread, holding the carpet in place. They're long and straight and heavy. Hence, when it's tipping it down (yet another English-ism for 'raining heavily'), you sometimes hear the expression, 'It's coming down like stair rods'.....or something similar. All of which goes to prove once more that the British are obsessed with the weather - we have so many ways of saying, 'It's raining'!
